Yesterday the new building was handed over to the Association by the contractors, A.D. Contracting of Arbroath. (links to other partners in the construction process are in the side-bar)

There is now power available within the building. Surface treatments are being applied.
Most of the external render has been applied. The steps to the boiler feed room are being built.

Things are moving so quickly on site that photographs on this blog are likely to be out of date as soon as they are posted.
Externally the natural stone gable is almost complete (probably completed tomorrow), most of the block-work cladding is finished, most windows and doors are in (to be completed next week).
Internally most of the plasterboard is in and will soon be taped and skimmed, electrical and plumbing 'first fixes' are complete. Each room is now distinguishable even if some walls are not complete.

After some delays early in the project a new schedule has been introduced to ensure completion on time. The contractors are currently a week or more in front of this new schedule so work has been moving quite quickly of late.

The site has again been busy this week.
Most internal partitions are now in place. Work has begun on the construction of external blockwork, and the natural stonework for the front of the building is taking shape.

The hatch between kitchen and cafe can be seen beyond the scaffolding.

Lots of activity on site this week with joiners, plumbers and bricklayers all making contributions.

The site has been busy this week with joiners erecting external wall frames, completing floor joists and starting on internal walls. The concrete floors which run along the Eastern side of the building are complete.

The rate of work has increased again this week. Several of the timber frame side panels have been positioned at the rear and Western sides of the building.
The concrete floors for the toilets, boiler room and store were laid late today.
Most of the scaffolding is now in place.
Once again we have had a week of substantially fine weather. Most of the site is covered by the building's roof. There was one day of heavy rain.

After several weeks of very slow progress things began to move at speed today.

Steel base for suspended concrete floor in position. Foul-water drains for toilet are in position.

Some joists for suspended wooden floors in position.

Work started on erecting scaffolding.

Progress has been quite slow over recent weeks with the result that the project is currently 3 to 4 weeks behind the original schedule.
The main contractors have now published a revised schedule and, with joiners starting on site next week, are confident that the revised schedule will allow completion of the project by the original target date.

Work on foundation blockwork continues. Work on the drainage system starts on Monday.

Components for the steel frame and for the roof arrived today.

Rapid progress has been made in erecting the steel frame.

Progress this week seems quite slow.
Strip foundations appear to have been completed but drainage and rainwater harvesting system not yet in place.
Delivery and erection of structural steelwork should have commenced earlier this week but has not.

Two thirds of the concrete foundations have now been poured.

Work on producing foundations continues.

Anchoring bolts for erection of steelwork are concreted in place.
The work is approximately two days behind schedule but the contractors believe they will soon catch up.

Nearly missed it - mains power disconnected last week.

LOOK! - it isn't there.

Today the removal of roof tiles was completed.

Some people don't take the hint.

Despite the fact that there are no bins for recycling someone dumped bags of tins and bottles close to the construction site - not even on ENKCA land. These have been removed and a sign which SHOULD make this clear has been posted.

1030 : Removal of roof tiles has started.

Close of day : One side of roof now down to sarking.

Thursday April 8th

The management team from AD contracting were at the site today evaluating progress with demolition.

It is hoped that work on removing the asbestos roof tiles will begin tomorrow allowing for full-scale demolition of the building next week.

The inside of the hall with cement-asbestos sheets removed (not seen like this for nearly 90 years).

Work continued today on the removal of asbestos.

Congratulations to the daffodil team who moved bulbs from the side of the hall prior to the arrival of contractors. Many of these will be blooming soon in the verge opposite the hall site.

Coming soon : During the next week the removal of asbestos sheets should be complete and visible signs of demolition will begin to occur.

Friday April 2nd

There is an air of calm and quiet work about the site.

Demolition seems to have commenced.
Access for contractors has been improved by cutting a hole in the side of the building.
Cement asbestos sheet is being removed prior to starting the main demolition.

To ensure that contractors vehicles do not use land belonging to the adjacent landowner signing has been used forbidding entry.

The Church Session has kindly agreed to allow the parking of light contractors' vehicles within the Church Yard, and Ken and Margaret Durston have kindly agreed to allow the temporary storage of materials on their land.

The safety fencing is in place to restrict access to authorised personnel only. Strict safety regulations apply which mean that ordinary members of the public must not now enter the site.

Accommodation for workers is in place. ENKCA has been unable to get permission to make use of adjacent land so the cabins have had to be stacked vertically because of restricted space.

Contractors arrived on site today as promised to prepare for demolition.
Some top soil was removed and fencing erected.

As Spring begins so will the construction of our new Community Hub when main contractors, AD Contracting, start work on site preparation.
